Most recognized for her community influencer and leadership abilities, Midy Aponte is an accomplished communications strategist intent on delivering meaningful results that connect all types of audiences: corporate representatives, political thought-leaders, community advocates and next-generation influencers.
Midy’s career is anchored in public health communications. She worked with more than a dozen (12) state health departments on their tobacco control and prevention efforts as a result of the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement. It has evolved over the years into substantial experience in corporate communications, litigation and reputation management, public affairs, non-profit advancement, social media integration and diversity and inclusion counsel. This work experience spans the public and private sector, as well as the Federal Government, and affords her the distinct ability to devise local, state and national strategies that are sustainable, creatively conceptualized and smartly implemented. As such, Midy’s portfolio includes collaborations with a roster of marquis brands and nationally-touted organizations, such as: Eli Lilly and Company, Tyco International, AOL Latino, Huffington Post, National Council of La Raza, and the Centers for Disease Control.
Midy recently concluded an appointment to serve as the Founding Executive Director of the American Latino Heritage Fund (ALHF) of the National Park Foundation. A position created by the President and CEO of the National Park Foundation, in concert with the Former Secretary of the Department of Interior, Ken Salazar. Her charge was to build a national non-profit fund, ALHF, and inspire awareness of historic preservation, outdoor recreation, conservation and stewardship of national parks among American Latino audiences. Here, Midy secured partnerships with REI, ARAMARK Parks and Destinations and Columbia Sportswear, to create the @American_Latino Expedition, a national public awareness social media campaign designed to engage Latinos in outdoor recreation and the national parks.
Her fifteen (15) years of experience serving Fortune 500 companies and non-profit organizations provided the disciplined foundation necessary to be recognized by various groups including the Outdoor Industry Association, WIN: Women of Achievement, and several PR Industry SABRE Awards.
When not flying around the country conceptualizing and leading strategies for her clients, or on the speaking circuit advocating for passions that support, reflect and uphold important issues affecting the public, Midy can be found at the gym, or hosting brunches and dinner parties. She is a proud graduate of Florida International University having received a Bachelors of Communications from the School of Journalism, and is an alumna of the National Hispana Leadership Institute’s Executive Leadership Program Class of 2011 and the Hispanic Leaders Program with the U.S. Spain Council’s Class of 2014.
A native of Miami, FL, Midy currently splits her time between her home in Washington, D.C. and Denver, Colorado.
